Famous for its beauty is the "Highway 1" or "Panamericana",
a road that winds itself in innumerable curves along the Pacific from Canada to
Chile. Here are pictures of a quite small section of this route, north of San
Francisco until Santa Cruz. But even in this small section it shows that the
route did not achieve its celebrity in vain!.
At Point Reyes station, approx. 60 miles north of San Francisco, the Highway
rather resembles a small village road, with historical houses on the right
and left.

To cross the "Golden Gate" Route 1 unites briefly with the busy
Freeway 101.......

......and branches off in San Francisco again, to follow the Pacific coastline.
Frequent fog and changing lighting can lead to quite different atmospheres
during the same day - that´s something I like especially!

Morning in Half Moon Bay , a Surfer´s Paradise (however not this morning)

Evening south of Half Moon Bay.

The coastal fog favours the agriculture... and 20 miles further east there is
desert climate all year round!

After sunset

Further south: San Gregorio State Beach, above and below....

Halloween Greetings!

Halfway between coast and "Silicon Valley" there are the famous
"Coastal Redwoods" with up to 1000 year old giant trees - almost
impossible to capture photographically. In the middle of the forest near Felton,
the "Big Trees & Roaring Camp" Railroad is an attraction, a
historic former logging line with fascinating technology and breath-taking
gradients.

Pescadero, a picturesque, quiet village.

The "Lone Star " has found a beautiful parking spot.

A winter evening - this is the best season of the year, mostly free of fog.

An old Motel in Santa Cruz

....and on the road again, going back north!
